KGB Archiver 2

Some compression tools are famous for being able to considerably reduce the size of a document, software, audio, video, or image text, while maintaining their attributes (e.g. the quality of an image).

But there is one compression tool we know about which takes archiving to the next level.

KGB Archiver (and no, it is not associated with the Russian former Committee for State Security) has a never-seen-before compression rate.
This small and seemingly plain software is extremely powerful, and it could easily surpass other products of its kind (when it comes to compression size, not speed).

Archives can be made in either KGB or ZIP format, and compression level can be set from minimal to maximum (with a lot of options in between). Plus, you can secure them by assigning a password, no matter which compression level you choose.

For example, we compressed a file of 1.2MB at maximum level. The process took 30 seconds, and the result weighed 366,5KB. We imagine a large file takes a lot more than that. So, yes, KBG Archiver is powerful, but it also takes long time for the extreme or maximum compression level.

When the application is open but has no active tasks, system memory is considerably used, but when a file is being compressed, the numbers are skyrocketing!

So, in case you're thinking about archiving a large file and leaving KGB Archiver to do its job while you're playing a video game, think again. But this scenario works when you leave your computer on and carry on with the rest of your day.

Browsing for files also takes KGB Archiver some time (especially when you accidentally select the Windows folder), and for some reason, the software couldn't read the Documents and Settings folder.

We must mention we tested it on Windows 7.
